Masonry, Pavers, and Retaining Walls

Whether you need a retaining wall, a patio, a driveway, or a sport court, this is work where the quality of what you can't see determines how long what you can see will last. Bad subgrade preparation is why concrete cracks, pavers sink, and walls lean. We don't cut corners on the foundation.

For retaining walls, we work in concrete, interlocking block, CMU (cinder block), and timber, selecting the right material for your site conditions, soil type, and load requirements. For walls that require a building permit and stamped civil drawings, we work directly with structural engineers to get the job permitted and built correctly. We've built walls on steep hillside lots with limited access, rebuilt walls that other contractors installed wrong, and handled everything from small garden walls to large structural projects.

For flatwork and hardscape, we handle demolition of existing concrete, subgrade excavation and compaction, concrete forming and finishing, and paver installation for patios, walkways, driveways, and sport courts.

And because drainage, walls, and hardscape are all connected, we can handle the full backyard project — so you're not coordinating four different contractors to get one cohesive result.

The East Bay's steep hillsides shed enormous amounts of groundwater after storms. That water has to go somewhere — and for hillside homeowners in Orinda, Lafayette, Moraga, Walnut Creek, and the Oakland hills, it often ends up where it doesn't belong: against foundations, under slabs, in crawl spaces, and across yards that never fully dry out.

In the Central Valley, the challenge is different. Flat terrain and clay-heavy soils mean water has nowhere to drain naturally. After a hard rain, it just sits — pooling in yards, backing up against structures, and saturating soil that was bone dry a week before.

We evaluate your site, identify where water is coming from and where it needs to go, and design a drainage solution that actually solves the problem. We specialize in French drains, foundation perimeter drains, surface regrading, drainage swales, catch basins, and sump pump installation.
